Island of Kauai

The elder statesman of Hawaii, Kauai is the oldest and northernmost of the main islands. Formed some six million years ago, the island encompasses roughly 550 square miles of quiet majesty and natural heritage. It’s known affectionately as the “Garden Isle” for its lush tropical greenery and striking vegetation. But tropical beauty isn’t the only draw to Kauai. Visitors also come for its diverse collection of activities, cultures, shopping and dining.

The island has been featured in several Hollywood movies and TV shows, including Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, South Pacific and the remake of King Kong. Several of Kauai’s features are certainly star-worthy, like the spectacular Waimea Canyon. At 3,000 feet deep, it’s widely considered the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” Other popular attractions include the towering cliffs of the Napali Coast (best viewed on a helicopter tour) and the Wailua River – one of the only navigable rivers in Hawaii (all located in Kauai).

Of course, those are just a few of the many places to escape. Dozens of plunging ravines, cascading waterfalls, and postcard-worthy cliffs, canyons, beaches and bays await your discovery. Life moves slower here, thankfully. If a fast paced lifestyle and vibrant nightlife is what you’re seeking, you’re best suited to look elsewhere.
